A Sunday in Hell

Dublin Wheelers Cycling Club presents:

A Sunday in Hell

In 1976 a little-known Danish film maker, Jorgen Leth, embarked on an ambitious project to capture the spirit of cycling’s toughest and cruellest Classic, Paris-Roubaix, in a new and epic way.
Leth tried to show every significant moment during the day, to portray
its heroes – Roger de Vlaeminck, Eddy Merckx, Freddy Maertens – as mythical figures, and used radical techniques - the helicopter mounted Wescam, an experimental choral soundtrack - and the finest cameramen of the day. The result was probably the finest-ever depiction of a single-day cycle race, a film that has itself become a Classic.

Best selling writer William Fotheringham has written a widely praised “biography” of Leth’s meisterwerk – how it was conceived and made and what became of the men and the places in it – and will be on hand to answer questions about the film and its maker.

All proceeds from the event will go to Pieta House who provide support for those in suicidal distress or engage in self-harm www.pieta.ie

Wheelers at the Races

RACINGRacing Update

It has been a busy summer for wheelers at the races. After his A1 win at Belmullet Eddie Brennan became a man of the Ras.

Then at the Moynalty GP A4 on July 8th, Brian Cullen in his first full year of Open racing won and how! . No competition in sight and plenty of time to celebrate at the line. The upgrade to A3 was not far behind. (Photo credit: RJR?)

More recently, Eoin McGovern won at the prestigious IVCA Sonny Cullen Memorial on August 12th beating a strong field in the sprint.

Finally, Noel Guinan won a silver medal this Thursday, August 16th at the Leinster and Louth Hill Climb championship. He completed the 1.68km climb of Jenkinstown Hill (8.1% average gradient) in 5:30.

Eddie Brennan Wins Big In Belmullet GP
