Dublin Wheelers Cycling Club has run structured programmes for beginners throughout the Autumn for several years now. We coach and develop a group of newcomers over a six-week period until they progress to take part in general club spins and join our club.
Space on this program is limited so please send an email with your contact details to membership@dublinwheelers.com to enrol. We will respond as soon as we can but please be patient as it may take up to a week for us to get back to you. You need to have a basic level of fitness for this program i.e. be able to cycle for 1-2 hours at a moderate pace. You MUST have a road/race bike in good mechanical order and you MUST wear a helmet.
Starting from Saturday, 28th September 2019, there will be six weeks of training spins for beginners. The purpose of these spins is to welcome potential new members into the club and to introduce beginners to long-distance cycling in a group. You will learn bike-handling skills; how to ride in a double pace-line; and, on-the-road bike maintenance and repairs.
These spins will take place on Saturday mornings through October and November. They will be organised, led and controlled by at least two DWCC members acting as Route Leaders. There will be a stop for tea/coffee and nobody will be left behind or dropped. Bring €5-€10 with you each Saturday. The distance will be approximately 50km for Week 1. This will gradually increase to 75-80km by the conclusion of the training period. Routes will be relatively flat. The average speed will be between 20-24kmph. This beginners group will join the “Gold” touring spin from mid-November 2018.
Please also read general spin instructions on this page regarding what to bring with you on the first spin.
